5 Ways to Get the Best Sleep of Your Life

Most people definitely take sleeping for granted. It is by far the one activity that we will spend the most time doing throughout our lives. We have been sleeping since we were babies and we will be sleeping when we are retired. Most people also realize the importance of getting a good night’s sleep, as we all know how much better and refreshed we feel if we get 8 hours of sleep as opposed to 4 hours.

Yet sleeping habits are one thing that people just “hope” will get better. Most people say they wish they could sleep earlier or they hope one day they can get 8 hours of sleep. Well it’s time to stop wishing and time to start doing! Here are a few easy steps we can take to make sure we get some great sleep. The key is to maybe start with one or two of these until they become a habit, and move on to the rest after.

Don’t exercise too late. Exercising is definitely important, but if you do it too late then it can disrupt your sleep. Studies show that 30 minutes of exercise will keep your body temperature high for about 4 hours, making it tougher to go to sleep. Time your exercise about 4 hours before you want to go to sleep and it will make it a lot easier for your body to fall asleep.
Turn off your brain. Many people have trouble going to sleep because they have too much on their minds. We tend to worry about things at night, but this can really disrupt your sleep. Instead, before you go to sleep write down 3 specific things you want to get done the next day and put it on your desk. This should take your mind off of them because you will see the list in the morning and get them done right away. Worrying can really destroy your sleep.
Eat a good snack. We all love snacking on things before we go to sleep. If you make a habit out of it, it can be very harmful to your health and cause lots of weight gain. It can also potentially disrupt your sleep if you don’t eat the right things. Ta being said, there are certain foods that can help you sleep better, and they’re also good for you. You want to focus on foods that contain tryptophan, the amino acid found in turkey that makes us sleepy. Things like cheese and crackers, bananas and peanut butter and fruit can all help with this.
Shut the devices down. Cell phones and tablets have become such a normal part of people’s lives that they routinely use them while in bed. We’ll even lay with them on in the dark before we go to sleep. This is a bad idea because studies have shown that the blue LED lights that these screens have can disrupt our sleep cycle, even after we’re done looking at them. Make it a point to not go on your phone or tablet at least a half-hour before you sleep.
Keep the temperature cool. The key here is melatonin, the hormone that signals our body to sleep. It is released when our body temperature cools down, which can be tough to do if you have the heat on high or have a space heater next to you. This is why it can also help to take a warm bath before sleep and slip in between some cool sheets, because this allows our body temperature to drop, helping us fall asleep much easier.

AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon is an English semi-professional football (soccer) club which is based in the United Kingdom. It is an affiliate of both the London Football Association and the Surrey Football Association. Although its current home-ground is at Kingsmeadow, which is located in the neighboring Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in London, the club traces its origin to Wimbledon in the London Borough of Merton. It is still believed and considered by its die-hard fans and supporters to be a continuation of the spirit which formed the Wimbledon Old Centrals and which kept alive the Wimbledon Football Club. The club is also known by its nicknames, “The Dons”, The Wombles”, and “The Crazy Gang”. Currently, it holds the all-time high English record for the most number of consecutive league game victories by any senior football club.

Anticipating a decision of the sport’s governing body that will result to the relocation of the club to another town, and determined not to allow a proud and colorful history to just die down, loyal and avid supporters of the Wimbledon Football Club formally organized the AFC Wimbledon in 2002. There were no other options because they were left with no team to follow in the coming season leagues. A competitive football team was formed in just a short time in preparation for the 2002-2003 season. In its first game ever as a team, it played a pre-season friendly game against Sutton United. Although it lost that game, it was able to attract a record number of fans.

With Terry Eames as its first manager, AFC Wimbledon competed in its inaugural league, the 2002-2003 season of the Combined Counties League. Starting slowly, the team gradually became strong in the end and went on to finish third place in its maiden league. This was the start of the new club’s rise to fame and glory. Its succeeding campaign, the 2003-2004 season, was more exciting and memorable as the team displayed remarkable performance, emerging as the champion and with a clean slate. This feat had established a record for the AFC Wimbledon at that time as the only football team in England in any league level to have maintained a perfect league record of no losses throughout the tournament. The team proceeded to win more tournaments under a new manager, Dave Anderson, its second.

As the club became more famous, management saw the need to extend its program of providing other sectors the chance to play football for the club. It organized youth teams of different age levels, and also a women’s team called the AFC Wimbledon Ladies. Because of the popularity of the club and also of the game, AFC Wimbledon was sponsored by Sports Interactive, a computer games developer. But, in the middle of the 2004-2005 season, the team played with its new name, the Milton Keynes Dons. It was named after the town of Milton Keynes in Bukinghamshire, the place where the former Wimbledon Football Club moved in years back. Time came when the team also has to encounter failures in its campaigns but, that is part of the game. With the arrival in 2007 of Terry Brown, the club’s third and current manager, the team regained its winning ways and continued with its upward momentum, winning more games and tournaments along the way.
